DESMOND POH
With more than 35 years of expertise in designing and developing modular systems, Singaporean engineer-turned-entrepreneur Desmond Poh’s creative ingenuity and experience in leading cross-national projects puts him at the forefront of modular technologies.
An inventor at heart, Desmond’s disciplined and precision-based approach to his craft was instilled in him during his military years. Trained in aeronautical engineering, Desmond graduated from the Air Engineering Training Institute and thereafter specialized in rotary wings aircraft maintenance with the Royal New Zealand Airforce. His experience while serving in the Republic of Singapore Airforce imbued in him the creativity and tenacity and in turn, impetus to invent modular solutions.
As testament to his mastery of modular systems, Desmond created the patented Candle-Loc technology in 2016, which went on to form the foundation of iMax SG’s solutions, including the PhyeFly, Solitaire, and PopUp, in meeting today’s architectural challenges.
Desmond’s portfolio of expertise in Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) spans the development of the workers’ dormitory at Jurong Town Corporation (2019) and collaboration with Hong Kong-based Paul Y Engineering for the modular-integrated construction of Hong Kong University’s student residence expected to complete sometime in 2021.
Since 1988, Desmond has consulted on various local, regional and international projects including the Phase Z.Ro Technopreneur Park in One-North (2001), Singapore Cancer Centre (2000) and the Children’s Cancer Centre (2000) at Singapore General Hospital, construction of temporary offices for the International Monetary Fund conference in partnership with Pico Art at Suntec City (2006), research chemical plants in China (1998) and pharmaceutical plants for INEOS BP Belgium (2000).
These days, as the Founder and Managing Director of iMax SG, Desmond combines his passion for developing modular systems and flair for architectural design as he creates scalable solutions to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
